Yes, but it’s important to select the right settings, attachments, techniques and vacuum type, since many household vacuum cleaners are designed to clean wall-to-wall carpets and hardwood.
Based on our rigorous testing, here are some of the things that we’ve found to work best:
Settings: Use low suction and low power, often labelled “hard floor” or “short-pile carpet,” with the beater bar/brush turned off.
Attachments: Use handheld attachments without bristles, brushes or beater bars if possible.
Technique: Just use a pull motion, rather than the traditional push and pull motion. Avoid vacuuming the edges and corners.
Vacuum Type How to Use
Upright Vacuum Cleaners Use a hardwood attachment and medium/low suction.
Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaners Use a hardwood attachment and medium/low suction.
Cylinder Vacuum Cleaners Use an attachment without a beater bar/brush, and make sure you use it in a pull motion.
"Carpet/Floor Sweeper
(non-electric)" Use a traditional push and pull motion.
Robot Vacuum Cleaners We'd advise you not to use autonomous robot vacuum cleaners, in order to avoid damage to the edges and corners of your rug.
Additionally, we recommend periodically vacuuming or sweeping under your Rug Pad to prevent the build-up of dirt, dust, and moisture. After cleaning underneath the Rug Pad, make sure the floor is completely dry before laying your Rug Pad back down.
